Life’s hidden shapes, revealed.
A protein’s job depends on its shape, which has long been hard to work out. The 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry went to David Baker for protein design, and to Demis Hassabis and John Jumper for structure prediction. AlphaFold2 helped make predictions available for almost all of the roughly 200 million proteins then identified. Not every prediction is correct.
